Gamelan, as a scientific journal, attracts contributions from academics and researchers-practitioners who have an interest in gamelan studies or karawitanology. UNESCO recognizes the philosophical importance of Gamelan as a form of cultural expression and a way of forging a connection between humanity and the universe. This demonstrates that gamelan is not merely a matter of sound but also the phenomena of human existence and the cosmos. Ideologically, gamelan has expanded beyond the confines of its cultural origin, and its diffusion is now nearly worldwide. It serves as a venue for critical analysis, innovative practice, and creative pedagogy, covering topics that may be unique to gamelan studies or found at the intersection of two or more disciplines.

The International Journal of Visual and Performing Arts draws on contributions from academics and practitioner-researchers at the interface of the new visual and performing arts. It acts as a forum for critical study, the innovative practice of the arts in the latest technological developments, and creative pedagogy, addressing themes which may be domain-specific (e.g., dance, music, visual arts) or lie at the convergence of two or more disciplines.
The editor's policy has chosen to allow artistic research pieces from all fields as of Volume 5 No. 1 (2023). In addition to serving as a meeting place for various artistic research practises and methodologies from various artistic fields, this is done since there are more artistic researchers throughout the world.
The journal encourages rigorous, substantial, and original research on any topic relating to the visual and performing arts or artistic research practises, inside or between disciplines. This promotes interdisciplinary discussion and interaction in a variety of contexts, including how technology might function as a medium for artistic expression. The spectrum of topics includes; Ethnomusicology; Karawitanology; Music Education; Musicology; Dance; Theatre; Movie and Television; Interior Design; Industrial Design; Media Arts; Fine Arts; Photography.
